For over two decades, M Jewelers has been more than a jewelry store — it has been a symbol of craftsmanship, resilience, and family dedication in the heart of Kensington, Philadelphia.

Founded by the Ma family, our journey began long before the name M Jewelers was ever placed above a storefront. Originally known as Kang’s Jewelers, the business has served the community for over 20 years, built on a commitment to offering high-quality, handcrafted jewelry and genuine customer care. When the opportunity came to continue the legacy, the Ma family proudly stepped forward, determined to preserve both the tradition and the neighborhood connection that made the store special. 

Building a Family Legacy

Over the years, the store became more than a business. It became a place filled with relationships, memories, and trust. Customers returned not only for jewelry but for the warmth they felt walking through the door. Soon formed lasting bonds with regular visitors, even dedicating a wall to their photos — a reminder that the store has always been about people first.

In 2008, the family officially purchased the business, taking full ownership of its future and continuing its legacy of craftsmanship and service.

Rising Through Hardship

Like many small family businesses, the journey was not without challenges. In 2014, a devastating fire destroyed the store and most of its inventory. With no insurance and years of work lost overnight, the setback could have ended the story.

Instead, it strengthened it.

With determination, family support, and the decision of their son Steve to step in full-time, the Ma family rebuilt. Later that year, they reopened across the street under a new name that reflected their identity and pride:

M Jewelers.

Rooted in Kensington

Though opportunities to relocate existed, the family chose to remain on Front Street — the neighborhood that had supported them from the beginning.

Kensington is more than a location. It is home.

Over the years, the Ma family has witnessed the area’s changes, from its busiest days filled with music, crowds, and storefronts, to quieter seasons of transition. Through it all, they have stayed committed to the community they love and continue to believe in its future.
